If you desire to have a tangible musical object to hold in your hands then this is for you. I used one of the most environmental printers I could find. I took time designing it with my partner as for me the object/cd is an important part of the finished work. It includes a full lyric booklet too, one thats a readable size :)

Father father, come on tell me what to do with my life Father father, come on tell me what to do with my life I’ve been walking for what seems so long I’ve been walking for what seems so long Father father, come on help me Give me a reason to hold on Please surround me and enfold me in your arms Lord These days are long. I’ve been yearning for what seems so long I’ve been yearning for what seems so long Each day that I am wondering I look for a reason I look for a sign In the mirror I see before me tired eyes sad sad heart I’ve been lonely for what seems so long I’ve been lonely for what seems so long Take away my fear and loathing all my sadness for those who have gone Give me hope lord and keep my vision, with Grace to pass on I’ve been scared Lord I’ve been scared Lord

Opium and smoke Velvet chairs wooden legs Silk embroidered flowers On my naked breast I wait in the dark For someone to comfort me I hold out my hand And hope you’ll come to me And in the night I am so I am so cold No I’ve been golden We were golden And I do not know Where you roam And still hope hope hope For better days to come And still I want want want For you to be a honest man I wait In the dark For someone to comfort me I hold out my hand And hope you’ll come to me And in the night I am so I am so cold No i’ve been golden Oh we were golden And I do not know Where you roam And with your cold cold cash I know how small I am And in your vacant eyes I see what I’m worth And I do not know Where you roam

Spider 03:59
Catch me Will you catch me if I fall Or leave me broken shattered and torn Like a spider web taken Leave me helpless And I will try And I will try Make a new home In a safe world Where nobody can break me Make a new home In a safe world Where nobody can break me For you A new world A brave heart A kind world A safe start And I will try And I will try Make a new home In a safe world Where nobody can break me Make a new home In a safe world Where nobody can break me For you And I’ll catch you If you fall I wont leave you broken Shattered and torn Like a spider web taken I wont leave you Alone

There lives a lass on yonder moor, - She wears a gown of green; She’s handsome, young, and sprightly, With a pair of roguish een: She’s graceful as the mountain dow that snuffs the forest air; And she brings the smell of the heather bell In the tresses of her hair. ’Twas roaming careless o’er the hills, As sunlight left the sky, That first I met this moorland maiden Bringing home her kye: Her native grace, her lovely face, The pride of art outshone; - I wondered that so sweet a flower Should blossom thus alone. Alas, that I should ever meet Those beaming eyes of blue, That round about my foolish heart Their strong enchantment threw. I could not dream that falsehood liked In such an angel smile; I could not fly the fate that lured With such a lovely wile. And when she comes into the vale, To try her beauty’s power, She’ll leave a spelll on many a heart That fluttered free before. But, oh, beware her witching smile, - ’Tis but a fowler’s snare; She’s fickle as the mountain wind That frolics with her hair!

My young love said to me, 'My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you for your lack of kine,'
And she stepped away from me and this she did say
'It will not be long, love, till our wedding day.’ She went away from me and she moved through the fair
And fondly I watched her move here and move there
And then she went homeward with one star awake
As the swan in the evening moves over the bay
Last night she came to me she came softy in So softly she entered, her feet made no din;
She laid her hand on me, and this she did say
'It will not be long love, till our wedding day.’

Swallow 04:29
She's like the swallow that flies so high She's like the river that never runs dry She's like the sunshine on the lee shore She loves her love and love is no more ’Tis out in the meadow this fair maid did go A-picking the lovely primrose The more she plucked the more she pulled Until she got her apron full She climbed up on yonder hill To give a rose unto her love She gave him one, she gave him three She gave her heart for company And as they sat on yonder hill His heart grew hard, so harder still He has two hearts instead of one She says, "Young man, what have you done?" "How foolish, foolish you must be To think I love no one but thee This world's not made for one alone I take delight in every home"

When the morning comes And the night its gone And I watch the bay for your ship to come home And I wait for you stand on the shore See the light and then no more Lay me down Down to rest I wont take another breath Lay me down down to rest I wont take another breath I watch the morning boat come in I see your ship and then it sinks And I wait for you Stand on the shore You don’t come home Lay me down down to rest I wont take another breath Lay me down down to rest I wont take another breath

Just a Drop 04:03
I don’t want to drink a lot Just a little bit I don’t want to drink a lot Just a little drop As they say to take the edge off Maybe I need a lot I made a gold cage For me to hide in Away from myself And what I’m feeling I know its bad waking up wanting I know its bad I need something I know its bad hating so much Everyone has addictions whatever they are Some religion some fast cars I made a gold cage For me to hide in Away from myself And what I’m feeling I try to fight myself Every day every day I try to fight myself To hold on to it all To see what its for I made a gold cage For me to hide in Away from myself So I couldn’t feel I don’t want to drink a lot Just a little bit I don’t want to drink a lot Just enough As they say To take the edge off Maybe I need a lot

Down by the Salley Gardens my love and I did meet; She passed the Salley Gardens with little snow-white feet. Down by the salley Gardens my love and I did stand And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snow white hand Down by the Salley Gardens my love and I did meet; She passed the Salley Gardens with little snow-white feet. She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the trees; But I, being young and foolish, with her did not agree. In a field by the river my love and I would stand, And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snow-white hand. She bid me take love easy, as the grass grows on the weirs; But I was young and foolish, and now am full of tears.

Put on my shoes Put on my face Put on a smile, I look great Put up my hair so it looks neat Put on a smile I am ready To tell the world what it needs To fill minds with hopes and dreams I’ve seen things hard to see I have honed the gift of forgetting They’re just mechanical They are animals They’re just the numbers To fill the data She lay there young, still and cold I knew her face from the petition I’d been told they'd been tamed No force was used, I was lied to One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine hundred bodies counting One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine thousand bodies counting One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine million bodies counting There just mechanical They are animals They just the numbers To fill the data Fear, greed and lies built the perfect world They wont let one small child break it all They have gone to far to let it fail But I fear as the walls start to crumble I am mechanical I am their animal I am just a number To fill their data I put my shoes on I do my face I zip up the dress that I hate

about

Love and Gold is a varied collection of original and traditional songs. The original songs I have written and arranged over the last ten years, some of the traditional folk songs I have been singing much longer. I wanted them all to be on this recording as they are part of my singing and performance tapestry.

I recorded them all in Glasgow over the space of 12 days and multi-tracked the whole thing. The title is taken from a poem by Edwin Waugh which I arranged and perform but didn’t include in the album.
